As a practicing Catholic I am greatly embarrassed and humiliated by the despicable behavior of priests and now the Vatican.  Now I find myself even more humiliated as the Pope’s top aide refers to  accusations against the church and Pope Benedict merely “a pretext for attacking the church.”

Are you SERIOUS?? The church is a disgrace! Priests and Cardinal Ratzinger have brought GREAT SHAME on Jesus Christ and parishioners and we are SICK AND TIRED of the cover-up and stonewalling. (more…)

When the FBI is tasked with developing a criminal profile to assist law enforcement in solving a crime, they rely greatly on patterns. That is, they mine historical crime data, evidence, testimony, psychological profiles, handwriting samples, demographics, parenting styles, sibling count, and a litany of other stores to determine what type of person would commit “x” type of crime. This science is called “profiling.”  An enthusiast of both mystery and criminology, I routinely use the same technique to evaluate the merits of books I read. Usually I can establish a “motive” by the first or second chapter. Admittedly, that was not the case with Francis Collins’ book The Language of God. (more…)

First of all, I find the child abuse scandal in the Catholic Church repugnant and appalling. When the story first broke, my heart broke with it.  I was so shocked and saddened I almost left the church for good. In fact had the church not started taking action and denouncing the deviant behavior of the scum in its clergy pool, I would have left without hesitation. The question I find myself asking now–esp in the face of the Ireland scandal– is this: Is the church doing enough to clean the scum?

The Vatican has issued a statement sharply rebuking Uganda’s anti homosexual legislation saying, “The Holy See continues to oppose all grave violations of human rights against homosexual persons, such as the use of the death penalty, torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.

“The Holy See also opposes all forms of violence and unjust discrimination against homosexual persons, including discriminatory penal legislation which undermines the inherent dignity of the human person.” (more…)

I’m going to tell you something radical: The brand of Christianity you see portrayed in the news, on disgruntled ‘former Christian’ websites, on the profane signs  in front of abortion clinics, in the courtrooms of those being tried for sexual abuse, murder, and terrorism committed “in the name of God,” in the lecture halls of America’s atheist university system,  and elsewhere is a BALD FACED, LONG-NOSED LIE.

I think it is high time the non violent, non hateful, non vitriolic, non racist,  and non prejudiced Christians come out of the closet and start setting the record straight (more…)
