As a practicing Catholic I am greatly embarrassed and humiliated by the despicable behavior of priests and now the Vatican.  Now I find myself even more humiliated as the Pope’s top aide refers to  accusations against the church and Pope Benedict merely “a pretext for attacking the church.”

Are you SERIOUS?? The church is a disgrace! Priests and Cardinal Ratzinger have brought GREAT SHAME on Jesus Christ and parishioners and we are SICK AND TIRED of the cover-up and stonewalling. (more…)

Glenn Beck recently said people should boycott churches that preach economic and social justice. Preachers of such churches are now calling for a boycott of Beck.  Even though Beck is a spaz, and–at least in this observer’s opinion–no more interesting than the office water cooler big mouth, (more…)

From CBS News: An Israeli archaeologist said Monday that ancient fortifications recently excavated in Jerusalem date back 3,000 years to the time of King Solomon and support the biblical narrative about the era.

If the age of the wall is correct, the finding would be an indication that Jerusalem was home to a strong central government that had the resources and manpower needed to build massive (more…)

It was only a matter of time before someone humanized Darwin. Who knew he was a great father, a loving husband, a sensitive, kindhearted loving man? Well, I did–but then again I prefer knowledge over ignorant bliss. According to Wikipedia: “Creation is a partly biographical, partly fictionalized account (more…)

In Saving Private Ryan the celebrated sniper Private Jackson prays “O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me” seconds before he blows a hole in a guy about a mile away. In Pulp Fiction Jules recited an editorialized Ezekiel passage (”and I will strike you down with furious vengeance..”) before he got his blast on. Now today it is being reported that sights on U.S. military weapons have been inscribed with Biblical inscriptions such as the one above (John 8:12). Huh? (more…)

My heart goes out to the people of Haiti and their loved ones around the world. But did God do it? Many Christians seem to think so. I don’t. I don’t think God causes earthquakes. I think the earth is very unstable in its fallen state, and thus calamities such as the one in Haiti are unfortunately  inevitable.

Of course the question will arise: what good could possibly come out of this? Well, looking forward, perhaps Haiti (more…)

In this video one of the 700 Club’s Fox News’ talking heads suggests Tiger may never recover, may have lost his family, and should choose Jesus over Budda because Buddism doesn’t “offer the type of forgiveness” Tiger needs. When teleprompter-reliant desk jockeys are giving sermons to pro athletes, you know the “greatest generation” has officially left the building. (more…)

Just a note to say happy new year to all who visit this blog. It has taken off in popularity pretty quickly. Thanks for visiting. I appreciate everyone of all beliefs that visit.

2009 was a very good year for me and my family. Not that it was all “good,” but that it was a year of great enlightenment and spiritual growth. The highlight of the year was having my 17 year marriage blessed in the Catholic Church. The lowlight was being diagnosed with “pancreatitis” (inflammation of the pancreas). Since I have never been an alcoholic, it was difficult for the doctors to say what caused it, but they settled on a combination of alcohol and high fat foods. Whatever the reason, (more…)

language_of_francis_collinsWhen the FBI is tasked with developing a criminal profile to assist law enforcement in solving a crime, they rely greatly on patterns. That is, they mine historical crime data, evidence, testimony, psychological profiles, handwriting samples, demographics, parenting styles, sibling count, and a litany of other stores to determine what type of person would commit “x” type of crime. This science is called “profiling.”  An enthusiast of both mystery and criminology, I routinely use the same technique to evaluate the merits of books I read. Usually I can establish a “motive” by the first or second chapter. Admittedly, that was not the case with Francis Collins’ book The Language of God. (more…)

defrocked_priest_michael_bakerFirst of all, I find the child abuse scandal in the Catholic Church repugnant and appalling. When the story first broke, my heart broke with it.  I was so shocked and saddened I almost left the church for good. In fact had the church not started taking action and denouncing the deviant behavior of the scum in its clergy pool, I would have left without hesitation. The question I find myself asking now–esp in the face of the Ireland scandal– is this: Is the church doing enough to clean the scum?

Before proceeding I should offer a little background: I am Catholic and I love the church. My mother was a devout Catholic (more…)

oil-residue-on-rocksI have a observed a common denominator threading the Christian-turned-atheist folks I have encountered in the past several months. Without exception, each one of them disqualifies God as “benevolent” on either one of three (or all) grounds: 1) All the pain and suffering in the world; 2) All the pain and suffering in the world caused by so-called Godly people; 3) All the pain and suffering in the world caused by God HIMSELF (such as in the O.T.).”

If you partake in any discussion about theism with an atheist, you will find these positions are as common to the materialist’s continuum as red, white, and blue are to the U.S. flag. (more…)

adventAt the risk of digression, allow me for a moment to turn to the subject for which this website ultimately exists. For the billions who count Him king of kings, lord of lords, judge of judges today marks His birthday, and I wish to proclaim with immense joy and thanksgiving: Happy Birthday, your highness, your excellency, your majesty, Jesus Christ.

Lest the growing number of atheists who read my site get up in a bunch, that is not to say the thinking lot of us have any delusions about today being his actual birthday; but it is none-the-less the day we–His followers– have agreed to celebrate it. That is not to sa (more…)

christianity_not_jesus_faultI have noticed a lot of atheists are now asserting Christ would have nothing to do with Christianity if he lived in our age. Moreover they assert Christianity was formed without His consent, and misrepresents His teachings. The image at left was lifted from a blog called notjesusfault.com. The purpose of the website (and I can safely presume the intent of anyone who cites its creed) is to ” to “vindicate Jesus from Christianity” … oh and, ahem, “encourage an important discussion about Christianity’s fidelity to Jesus’ message and mission.”

I’ll do my best not to laugh too hard at the absurdity of the idea that Christ hates Christianity. I will limit my analogies to (more…)
